Imputation Allows Us to Make the Vast Majority of GWAS Discoveries at a Fraction of the Cost of Sequencing Genetic variants are correlated with each other. Knowing the alleles an individual carries at a given position in their genome allows alleles at nearby locations to be inferred. This inference process is known as ‘genotype imputation’. We type ~650,000 SNPs using our genotyping array, which allows accurate imputation for > 35m SNPs in the genome. Genotype imputation is much more cost effective than whole-genome sequencing.
